Sometimes the desire to create something new and different can result in the loss of old features that still have relevance. Thankfully that wasn’t the case for JMS Architecture and E.B. Mahoney Builders when working on this ranch house out in the western suburbs of Philadelphia.
Bringing the outside in and expanding the ambiance.
This family homestead was in dire need of a refresh that would bring new life to the property while still maintaining its original prairie-style build. Raising the ceiling and replacing existing doors with glass allowed the space to expand visually. Even with these revitalizations, however, the designers made sure to keep the 1950s vibe alive.
A once drab patio is now an inviting space for family and entertaining.
Photographing at twilight meant I was able to capture both the interior and exterior simultaneously. In addition, drone shots allowed me to properly convey the expansiveness of the surrounding land.
