Dreaming of (Photographing) a White Christmas

The University of Pennsylvania’s Fischer Fine Arts Library, designed by Frank Furness, glows in the winter light.

The holiday season means something different to each of us. Many people are excited to host and visit loved ones. Some are eager to shop for gifts. As for me, I want to get out there with my camera, because nothing is quite as fun as shooting outdoors after a fresh snowfall.

This statue of Ben Franklin looks like he could use a hat!

With my trusty hat and gloves on, I am able to capture the magic of that first snow. The cold isn’t quite as biting when I’m dazzled by the way everything looks dusted in white. Whether it’s on treetops, rooftops, or a statue of Ben Franklin, snow never fails to get me in the holiday mood.

Snow collects on the exterior of the Fischer Fine Arts Library at the University of Pennsylvania.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. See you in 2023!

Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture wears fresh snowfall well.
