Thankfulness

When I stop to think about what I do, how I do it, and who I do it with; I’m afforded an abundance of:

Beauty

One of my favorite buildings anywhere is the Fisher Fine Arts Library in Philadelphia. It’s an eclectic combination of mass and ornament in bright red terra cotta. Victorian architecture at its finest. Each time I photograph it, it reveals something new to my eye and I feel privileged to find new ways to show it off.

Wonder

I have always loved learning new things. When I began flying a drone about four years ago, I had no idea how much it would become a regular part of what I do for a living. In photographing a building or a landscape, a drone enables me to see things from a new perspective—and I don’t have to pay for a helicopter.

Humanity

I’m always meeting new people when I venture out to take photographs—people in front of the lens as well as behind the scenes. In the case of Gritty, the crazed new mascot of the Philadelphia Flyers, it was a bit of both. I had a particularly fun experience photographing him when he was the guest of honor (court jester) at Penn’s dedication of their renovated ice rink. Something about Gritty’s persona just makes people smile and laugh—and deepens our connections to each other.
